KUSUM Yojana launched by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy department of India. This scheme will help farmers to generate power for their tubewells. The solar pumps will not only assist to irrigate the farms but also allow them to generate safe energy. Farmers can also sell extra power to the power supply companies. it will help them to generate extra income for himself.
The proposal on "Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan" KUSUM Scheme provides for:-
KUSUM stands for Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthan Mahabhiyan. Under the scheme, the government installs Agriculture Solar Pumps.
The Solar power plants have a capacity up to 2 MW in the rural areas.
This is off-grid solar water pumps to fulfill the irrigation needs of farmers not connected to the grid. solarisation of existing grid-connected agriculture pumps to make farmers independent of grid supply and also enable them to sell surplus solar power generated to DISCOM and get an extra income.
Subsidy Structure of KUSUM Scheme
As per scheme, farmer will get subsidy on new and improved solar powered pumps. The farmers will have to spend only 10% of the total expenditure to acquire an install a solar pumps and 60% cost will be handle by govt and remaining 30% will be taken care of by bank as credit.
